Before you travel

  1. Open Plan and select FROM and TO. Select the correct named station and service when locations have similar names.
  2. Run the comparison and read the ordinary journey beside the accessibility-constrained result.
  3. Compare additional minutes, transfers, departure timing, and the source labels used for each result.
  4. Inspect station access, transfer dependencies, elevator conditions, and any unverified street walking.
  5. Open Execute when ready, or use Route Guardian to save a journey for recurring checks after signing in. Recheck conditions before departure.

How to plan an accessible subway journey

Select a starting point and destination, run the comparison, and review the complete accessible route rather than relying only on endpoint station labels. Shared FROM and TO links keep the selected journey in the URL.

What MinuteMap compares

The planner calculates an ordinary journey and an accessibility-constrained journey with the same time model. It reports the additional time and transfers created by the supported step-free route.

How live conditions affect results

Current reported elevator conditions are applied only where equipment evidence matches a required path. Scheduled service, realtime matches, alerts, and accessibility evidence remain separately labeled.

What happens when no route can be verified?

MinuteMap explains the unavailable evidence and can surface supported nearby-station or multimodal alternatives. It does not invent an accessible connection to make a route appear complete.

Is the accessible NYC route planner free?

MinuteMap offers five guest plans; a free account unlocks unlimited plans. Review the plan counter on the planner for your current guest allowance.

Why is the accessible route longer?

Avoiding stairs or a required elevator outage can change the stations, transfer, or transport mode. MinuteMap compares both journeys with the same routing framework and explains the additional time.

Does MinuteMap guarantee a wheelchair-accessible route?

No. Results depend on available official station information, matched equipment conditions, and modeled connections. Read the limitations and source labels; unavailable evidence is not confirmation of accessibility.

Station accessibility examples

Review the exact station, services, direction notes, and current matched equipment status. These examples are station records, not verified journeys between them.

Official sources and corrections

This guide combines official travel resources with MinuteMap’s documented behavior. Station records and live status show their own evidence and freshness. To flag a station error, open its record and use Report inaccurate accessibility information.
